Bahrain: A Faltered Revolution
On Feb. 14, 2011, Bahrain slipped into the wave of revolutions that defined the arab world this spring. Through a commitment of nonviolence, activists in Bahrain felt close to the achieving a peaceful revolution like that seen in Egypt. But now, after Saudi tanks appeared in country and the Bahraini government stepped up their attacks on protesters, this goal seems out of reach. Protesters say their efforts are now about self-defense against the lethal force used by King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa to crush their demonstrations.
